To critically examine the inner-dynamics leading to the formation and evolution of the European Union (EU) and analyse the role and impact of EU as an international actor at the developed level.
Theoretical approaches to inter-regional cooperation and economic and political integration; the origins of European integration; integration theories; treaties and agreements aimed at European integration; the institutions of the European Union; the integrating force of regionalism; integration pressures in the areas of foreign and security policies; enlargement of the European Union; relevance of European integration initiatives for other regions; EU’s expanding role as a key global geo-political and economic actor; EU’s responses to global environmental change, human security and human development issues.
