To enable the student to develop basic clinical skills for observing, assessing, communicating and intervening with clients.
Overview of basic clinical applied skills required by the clinical psychologist; consultation models; interviewing, counselling, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention - goals and skills; skill training in interview, counselling and crisis skills; intervening with difficult clients - suicidal and violent clients; cultural aspects; intervention techniques from the cognitive behavioural perspective; history taking and record keeping.
