Course aim

To provide students with advanced knowledge and to develop research skills in the analysis, interpretation and communication of information from the scientific literature commensurate with a medical laboratory scientist working in professional practice.

Course content

Viruses that cause human disease and laboratory diagnosis of viral infections. Medical parasitology. Medical mycology. Antibiotic resistance: mechanisms, detection, control. Molecular techniques in clinical microbiology. Vaccines. Current issues in clinical microbiology.
