Course aim

To introduce to students the operation of power semiconductors and their applications in power conversion systems and also to provide students with knowledge of technology trends in microcomputer control and operation of different AC or DC drives used in industry.

Course content

Solid state power electronic devices such as thyristors, GTO, IGBT, MCT and Induction thyristors and their applications in power conversion systems, System considerations, Power electronic drive systems, performance of machines driven by power electronic converters and effect on machine ratings. The industrial drives and their classification.
