Course aim

To introduce students to common design problems in civil engineering, which require application of geomechanics and the evaluation of risk associated with naturally variable material.

Course content

Design of retaining walls, pore water pressure parameters, earth dams, tailings dams, landfills, expansive soils, site classification, design of shallow footings on expansive soils, pavement engineering, flexible pavement design, bituminous surfacings.
