To design and analyse thermal systems such as power generation plant, renewable energy systems, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, and minimise their environmental impacts.
Introduction to air-conditioning systems; Psychrometric analysis; Heating and cooling load calculations; Concept of Refrigeration and its applications; Refrigeration cycles; vapour compression, absorption, evaporative and desiccant cycles; compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion devices; vapour compression system design, analysis and simulation; Air-conditioning equipment selection; Duct design methods; Steam power plant operation and performance analysis; Design and analysis of solar thermal, photovoltaic, and wind systems. Estimation, measurement and implications of greenhouse gases and other emissions; emissions regulation and reduction; environmental issues.
