Course aim

To introduce students to the basic concepts of chemistry and to provide them with experience in practical work related to the theory course.

Course content

Practical and theoretical studies of: physical properties and the kinetic molecular theory; atoms and chemical change; structure and bonding; acids, bases and salts; redox; the mole; heat of reactions; reaction rates; periodic table; metals, non-metals and their compounds; introduction to environmental chemistry; introduction to organic chemistry and the chemistry of biologically important molecules.
