To provide students with an understanding of the three underlying principles of sustainability namely, the economic, the social and the environmental, with particular reference to the built environment at both the micro and macro level.
Introduction to the social, environmental and economics context of the construction industry.The impact of social policy on the built environment; the impact of environmental policy on the built environment; Indigenous Australian culture and the sustainable built environment; economics and the construction industry marketplace; economic systems for resource allocation; demand and supply; costs, revenues and pricing and their application to construction firms; market structure and the construction industry; government sustainability policies; the construction industry and the national economy; monetary policy and interest rates.
