Course aim

To introduce students to the study of buildings under load, the analysis of simple structures.

Course content

Mathematical methods. Introduction to elementary stability theories, building loads, structural systems, principal components, forces and stresses. Statically determinate and indeterminate analysis. Beam, truss, column and frame behaviour and analysis, bending, shear, deflection, bearing and stability. Introduction to building surveying structural principles.
