To introduce students to the study of buildings under load, the analysis of simple structures. This includes distinguishing between different types of loads and describing different types of structural members.
Mathematical methods. Introduction to elementary stability theories, building loads, structural systems, principal components, forces and stresses. Behaviour and analysis of beam, truss and column. Bending, shear, deflection, bearing and stability. Introduction to: equilibrium, structural analysis software, structural property of steel.
