Course aim

To introduce students to the organisation of the building industry; familiarise students with the management techniques of the building process and provide a conceptual framework to support their later studies of the industry.

Course content

History, external environment and characteristics of the construction industry. Organisation of the construction industry: roles, objectives and activities of the sectors, professions, business entities, regulatory and advisory bodies. Sustainable construction. Development cycle of built facilities and life cycle construction projects. Introduction to management of construction organisations and projects, and project management theory and principles.  The building process. Site organisation and processes.
