Communication Practicum 1

Course aim

To develop students’ theoretical understandings of what underpins the phenomena of organisational communication and develop competency in the analyses of structures and cultures of organisations within interpersonal, intrapersonal, small and large groups.

Course content

Major organisational theories and their communication implications; diversity of organisations; qualitative research methods in the workplace; overview of key Western and Eastern twentieth and early twenty-first century organisational theoretical developments; issues of organisational structure, organisational culture, strategic communication, power and conflict, decision making, postmodernism and new information technologies, cultural diversity and gender-issue management.
