Course aim

To provide students with advanced knowledge on electromechanical energy conversion and mathematical models of electrical machines including evaluation of characteristics through computational tools.

Course content

Electromechanical energy conversion principles; rotating field theory; steady state models and characteristics of dc, induction and synchronous machines; analysis of electrical machines using reference frame theory; two-axis model; transient models and behaviours of dc, induction and synchronous machines. Wind generators: self-excited induction generators, doubly-fed induction generators, and permanent magnet synchronous generators.
