To extend students’ insight into the contexts and nature of leadership and management, early childhood services and the role of the professional; to understand the nature of leadership and the implications for change; to familiarise students with the legal responsibilities and relevant regulations governing management and administration in the early childhood field; to encourage students to recognise and value the need to maintain and evaluate their own professional effectiveness.
Current social, political and economic contexts of early childhood services in identified contexts; theories of management; management principles critical to children's services; management structures; leadership styles, roles and responsibilities; theoretical perspectives on change, working as a team member; supervision; legal responsibilities and continuing professional development.
