To enable preservice teachers to apply skills and knowledge as they adopt the role of an early childhood teacher in a birth to three setting.
Preservice teachers will undertake supervised placements and develop knowledge of the role and expectations of teachers of children in the age group of birth to 3 years old. Preservice teachers will explore the regulatory frameworks, policies, legal and ethical considerations, health, safety and nutrition issues, authentic curriculum planning for very young children, professional self development and reflective practice, managing behaviour, importance of relationships and communication with parents, staff and children, and developing and maintaining a professional experience portfolio.

Complete the UniSA Literacy and Numeracy Self-evaluation and the Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) 7-hour training (by approved providers) and designated first aid training (by approved providers) to be eligible to proceed to Field Placement (Professional Experience Placement). The 7-hour RAN training must be completed whilst enrolled within the Initial Teacher Education program.
