To enable students to provide arts curriculum, including visual art, music, drama, dance and media, for children from Birth to 8 years and to critically reflect on the nature of the arts in early childhood.
Assumed knowledge: The ability to meet the following objectives: read musical notation in the treble clef; and reproduce simple tunes from musical notation using a melodic instrument. Students who are unable to meet these requirements to the satisfaction of the course coordinator will need to undertake an appropriate course of study.
Principles and processes of teaching and learning in the arts; children’s development in the arts; children’s cognitive competence in relation to the arts; arts materials and resources; multiliteracies in the arts; arts curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation; diversity in the arts in Australia; educational issues relating to the arts.
