Course aim

To investigate health-related physical fitness and to develop the expertise to assist others to take up and safely enjoy a wide range of healthy active lifestyles, particularly for children of primary and middle school age.

Course content

Students will develop an understanding of the fitness and wellbeing concepts, the health benefits of physical activity, H&PE Learning Area of the SACSA Framework, preparing for physical activity, exercise cautions, cardiovascular fitness, injury prevention and management, care of the neck and back, flexibility programs, relationships and sexual health education for young people. Students will develop an understanding of stress management and relaxation, lifestyles for healthy living. They will review state and national fitness programs, fun fitness activities appropriate for primary and middle school students, and fitness assessments.
