Course aim

To enable student teachers to develop initial reflective and teaching skills and an awareness of the educational and community contexts of primary schools and the roles of teacher in the school-wide context.

Course content

Skills in reflection, developing positive relationships, observation and professional communication; planning for teaching; learning as an active process; influences of self-esteem on learning; the role of language in learning; effective use of resources; classroom management; assessment and evaluation; the role of the teacher; classroom, school and community contexts for teaching and learning.
