To introduce students to the principles of teaching Health and Physical Education in early childhood, community and primary school settings.
The role and nature of Health and Physical Education within the curriculum; deconstruction of the mind/body dualism; curriculum construction; introduction to teaching methodologies in Health and Physical Education; growth and development of infants, children, and emerging adolescents; factors affecting motor development; factors affecting health outcomes; strategies for meeting diverse and special needs; progressions for teaching and developing motor skills; stimulus variation and optimising learning; models of pedagogy; critical aspects of the teaching and learning process; lesson planning in Health and Physical Education; evaluating the teaching process from both technical and critical perspectives.
