Course aim

This course will enable students to study the process of program planning that is used to implement recreation and sport events. Students will work in small teams to apply the theory, knowledge and skills in a practical setting.

Course content

This course will introduce concepts of program planning and event management applicable to the recreation and sport industry. Students will focus on a Recreation Programming Model exploring concepts of leisure theory, program creation, group work environments, budgeting, promotion, scheduling and evaluation. The course involves eight weeks of theory, delivered in lectures and explored further in workshops. For the remaining weeks, students will work in teams to plan, implement and evaluate an event for a host organisation.
