To encourage students to reflect on the characteristics and meaning of sport in literature, film, radio and TV.
Current issues and topics relevant to the place of sport in society as represented in various media - literature, journalism, radio, TV, film: olympic origins; contending myths; social and cultural criticism – male bonding; female under-representation; the archetypal hero; metaphors of life; homo ludens; the survivor; spiritual and existential experiences; sporting anecdotes; historical and contemporary literature; film and non-fiction, including TV, radio and magazines; philosophical essays.
