Course aim

To provide students with knowledge of fantasy literature for children and adolescents and understanding of the nature and history of the genre.

Course content

Students will analyse traditional literature and contemporary fantasy in film and fiction, including the sub-genres of epic fantasy, time fantasy, science fiction, other worlds, animal fantasy and the supernatural. They will interrogate  classic themes such as the heroic quest, social critique and psychological growth.
