Course aim

To extend students' knowledge of a representative sample of novels published expressly for young adult readers and to assess the significance of the material as a literary sub-category.

Course content

Students investigate the set of literature which has been identified as particularly suitable for adolescent audiences. To this end a relatively large and representative sample of adolescent literature is analysed, including material from a variety of cultures, a variety of historical periods and a wide range of genres, in light of adolescent development and prevailing social constructs.
