To introduce students to the role of television within society.
The connections between television, society and popular culture,the vital role of television in mediating between and expressing our public and private lives.
The academic discourses within which television is situated; historic and contemporary television programming; television-as-industry; Australian television; television genres (advertising, news, sports, current affairs, soap opera, teen TV); television audiences; cult television; trans-media narration and on-line fandoms; contemporary 'quality' television; free-to air, cable TV and the digital; television and the public/private spheres; issues of globalisation and localisation; television and popular culture.
