Course aim

To provide students with an understanding of design theory and a broad knowledge of the design processes required to produce quality business documents as well as an appreciation of the legal issues associated with desktop publishing.

Course content

Creation of business documents using Microsoft Publisher for desktop publications. Emphasis on page layout and design, typography (fonts and styles) focusing on legibility and readability, importation of text and graphics and development of a corporate image for businesses. Creating and editing basic logos, images and text capture using scanners and digital cameras. Business document layout for office stationery, advertising brochures, newsletters, forms, flyers, reports, manuals, etc. Colour management and printing. Defamation, Contempt of Court, and Intellectual Property, covering copyright and trademarks, as well as other legal issues pertaining to printed business documents.
