Course aim

The aim of this course is to allow the student to acquire the advanced knowledge and skills required to practice in the area of obstetric and gynaecologic sonography with autonomy, well developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility.

Course content

Scanning techniques and interpretation of images of female pelvis (anatomy, transabdominal and transvaginal scanning techniques), first, second and third trimesters of pregnancy, and the related disease processes, physiology, pathophysiology and embryology.

Students must be in a General Sonography training position, with placement details to be evidenced and confirmed prior to census date. Students in the General Sonography stream must have completed 400 hours of scanning prior to commencing this course; as evidenced and confirmed by submission of logbook milestone 1 prior to census date.

Corequisite(s)

The student must be engaged in ultrasound examinations for a minimum of 200 hours per study period.
