Course aim

Explore and analyse contemporary perspectives in mental health and mental illness with a focus on promoting recovery for individuals.

Course content

Socio-political context of mental health; Person centred care; recovery processes;
primary and tertiary mental health care; concepts of mental health promotion and mental illness; models of mental health assessment; physical, psychosocial and cognitive areas of human function and behaviour; common mental health problems and associated interventions; legal and ethical considerations; The National Mental Health Plan Policy & standards; Cultural safety; Social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; critical thinking and reflection; quality use of medicines
