The aim of this course is to develop knowledge of fire technology and in particular the principles and implementation of passive protection in large and complex buildings.
The causes of fire, the products and hazards of fire, the chemistry of fire, what can be predicted about fire behaviour from computer software packages, behaviour of materials in a fire, fire loads, fire resistance levels, fire resistance tests, means of escape, early fire hazard tests for materials, compartmentation, separation and envelope protection, passive fire protection measures.
