Course aim

Students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to confidently and competently manage clients with allergic conditions across the lifespan.

Course content

The role of the allergy nurse; ethico-legal aspects of allergy nursing; evidence-based practice/best available evidence in allergy nursing; locating evidence-based, professional allergy resources; management of allergy and the allergic response across the lifespan including eczema, allergic rhinitis, asthma and allergic airways disease, drug allergies, immunotherapy, anaphylaxis, allergy vs intolerance; social, economic and environmental factors impacting on allergic conditions and their management within a global context; allergy investigations; allergy myths and misconceptions; client teaching across the lifespan, allergy prevention and early intervention strategies.
