Course aim

To provide students with a solid foundation in statistical methods including exposure to, and use of statistical software packages required for population health research practice.

Course content

Exploratory data analysis (exploring data with graphs, descriptive statistics); common probability distributions and their applications; categorical data; chi-square distribution and analysis of frequencies (point and confidence intervals estimation, hypothesis testing and chi-square test, relative risk, odds ratio and Manta-Haenszel test); continuous data (estimation, transformations, categorical predictors: ANOVA, quantitative and categorical predictors; multiple regression models, general linear models); binary and count data (logistic regression and poisson regression, generalized linear models); path analysis (mediation and moderation models); time to event data (survival curves, cox regression models).
