Course aim

To introduce students to the animation theory and practice required to produce a range of 3D character performances.

Course content

Character Performance introduces students to 3D modelling, lighting, texturing, rigging, animating and rendering concepts, techniques and processes in the latest industry standard software. During the lecture series, students will enhance their understanding of the fundamental principles of animation specific to character design and performance. During the practical series, students will develop their design and performance skills, including character modelling, pelting, rigging, walk and run cycles, pose-to-pose and straight-ahead animation, facial animation, and motion capture. The assessment tasks will provide students with the opportunity to combine these skills and techniques to develop a short story; and design, build and animate a character within a narrative.
