Course aim

To provide students with the knowledge and skills required for the design and construction of typical rural roads. To understand functions of road hierarchy, roadway elements and the principles of traffic management.

Course content

Geometric road design including haulage diagrams. Introduction to 2D CAD. Introduction to automated computer applications for road design. Hierarchy of roads. Roadway elements. Traffic control devices. Intelligent transport systems (ITS). The principles of local area traffic management including parking management.
