Course aim

This course consolidates the concepts of mechatronics introduced in the course EEET3008 Mechatronics 1 and aims at raising the competency level in designing and implementing mechatronics systems.

Course content

Review of basic concepts; System design techniques applied to mechatronic systems: compatibility; sensitivity analysis. Modelling and simulation of mechatronic systems. System integration. Encoder interfacing and motion control. PID control and fuzzy logic. Machine vision systems: Supervisory and embedded machine vision; image processing and enhancement; colour image processing. Power electronics in mechatronic systems: ratings; protection; interfacing; efficiency; economics. Choice of power supply. Industrial robots: robot tools. Kinematics of robots. Kinetics. Autonomous mobile robots.
