Course aim

To develop students' competence in applying design principles, processes, strategies and practices to a variety of design projects that address issues of social and ecological sustainability in contemporary contexts.

Course content

Design processes: physical, cultural, ethical and economic issues integrated with creativity in designing for ecological responsibility. Design strategies: materials selection, structures and technical requirements, design function, use, social sustainability. Design practice: identification and problem framing, interpreting and rewriting a brief, communication, frameworks for project work, presentation, liaison and consultation. Collaboration with industry and/or interdisciplinary academic groups.
