Course aim

To advance knowledge and skills of pharmacy practice gained in earlier years of the undergraduate program and to prepare students for the Professional Placement experience, by the further development of advanced communication, technical and cognitive skills necessary to analyse, evaluate, integrate and transform  pharmacotherapeutic knowledge in the provision of best pharmacy practice. Furthermore, to gain an understanding of complex practice models and the autonomy, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility required of pharmacists in health promotion and management of chronic disease.

Course content

Professional standards of pharmacy practice, their place in practice, intention and use; the legal and ethical frameworks of professional practice, including addiction medicine; the role-specific skills required for contemporary professional pharmacy practice in the major settings including: primary health care in community pharmacy; medication provision and review in community pharmacy; medication management and drug optimisation; therapeutic drug monitoring; clinical pharmacy services; pharmaceutical calculations; chronic disease management; concepts of continuous quality improvement.
