Global Water Systems 1 - Natural Water Cycle

Course aim

This course is designed to provide an understanding of global water issues and their interaction between the water cycle and aquatic ecosystems. It also provides insights into the challenges of water usage for health and wellbeing, protecting ecosystems, and the competing needs in urban, rural, and agricultural environments.

Course content

This topic is split into 2 modules, Module 1 The Hydrologic Cycle and Module 2 Inter-relationships between the Water Cycle & Aquatic Ecosystems. Each module is run over 6 weeks of the semester and involves a 3 hr session block per week (18 hrs of contact total) as well as an expected amount of 60 hours total student effort per module. The course requirement attendance at a 3hr field trip- Noting that the majority of students area based in Adelaide, a local field trip will be organised focusing on water in the natural hydrological cycle. The field trip will be conducted at Scott Creek, Mt Lofty Ranges.
