Course aim
To build on existing skills to further develop students’ understanding of and ability to manage language and culture as resources in professional practice.
Course content
This course builds on introductory level skills to develop students' ability to examine critically the role of language in professional work including journalism, media, health, medicine, business, education, law and public relations. It enables students to investigate their own and others' workplace contexts and interactions from linguistic and cultural perspectives; to analyse discourse and its role in professional expertise, to research how language is used and understood in professional/client interaction; and to evaluate their own and others' professional communication.
