Course aim

To examine the types of financial markets and financial securities found both in Australia and internationally, and analyse the major forces affecting the structure of international financial markets and global capital movements as well as the practices associated with the analysis of financial markets from within the perspective of modern financial theory.

Course content

Introduction to finance, characteristics and types of financial securities, the role of financial markets, and the regulation of financial systems; interpreting financial statements; the time value of money, basics, extensions and applications; analysis of and introduction to the valuation of financial securities, money market securities, bonds, stocks, foreign currency, forwards and futures, options, warrants and convertibles; and important contributions to modern financial theory, notably portfolio theory, asset pricing, and efficient market concepts.
