Course aim

To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of key processes involved in water and wastewater quality, treatment and supply for human and environmental needs.

Course content

- Water Resources: National and International Issues in Water Resource Management.
- Potable Water Quality: impacts from catchments (e.g. soils, vegetation), climate, surface and subsurface flows, reservoir water quality and management, chemical and biological risks to public health.
- Water Quality Assessment: Water/wastewater quality parameters (natural and anthropogenic) and measurement methods.
- Water Quality Processes: Catchment and reservoir processes, water chemistry, water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Treatment of water for drinking purposes including conventional and emerging technologies; granular activated carbon, disinfection, drinking water distribution; primary, secondary and tertiary municipal wastewater treatment and recycled water.
