Corporate Strategy

Course aim

This course builds on the Competitive Strategy course. It addresses the challenges facing executives of multi-business firms who need to deal with increasing community expectations for economic, societal and environmental sustainability of their organisations. The course starts with the issues of economic sustainability by exploring the various forms of corporate strategies and how they create value. It then moves on to the broader role of the corporation in society by focusing on the issues of corporate social responsibility, ethics, corporate governance and environmental responsibility.

Course content

The following topics will be covered in this course:

• The link between competitive advantage, competitive strategy and corporate strategy;
• Creating corporate advantage;
• Related and unrelated diversification strategies;
• Corporate restructurers and private equity;
• The institutional, industry and global contexts of corporate strategy;
• Managing the corporation;
• Leadership and corporate change;
• Corporate governance and ethics;
• Corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.
