Once you have completed your placement you will be armed with a wide range of experience to take with you into your chosen profession.

Placement requirements differ between courses, check the program details closely to ensure you meet the requirements necessary to take part in your placement, and to be prepared for it.

    Psychology student placements

    The Psychology Placement and Research Experience courses aim to enable students to:

    • Apply psychology knowledge and skills in a work setting
    • Use professional skills and behaviours in a work setting
    • Develop skills in reflecting on experiences as a foundation for learning and professional life.

    Your placement requirements differ between courses. Please ensure you check the details carefully, or contact the Program Director for more information. Supervision by industry professionals is mandatory during these placements.

    Bachelor of Psychological Science (MBPU)

    Students undertake 1 x 150 hour placement either in semester 1 (SP2) or semester 2 (SP5).

    Bachelor of Psychological Science (Cognitive Neuroscience) (MBCN)

    Students undertake 1 x 150 hour placement either in semester 1 (SP2) or semester 2 (SP5).

    Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) (MHPU)

    Students undertake 1 x 50 hour experience in a research environment in semester 2 (SP5).

    Social work and social science student placements 

    Undertaking a placement in a professional setting is critical in preparing you to embark on your career. Consolidating learned skills through real-world problem solving,social work and social science placements are invaluable to both students and industry.

    Your placement requirements differ between courses. Please ensure you check the details carefully, or contact the Program Director for more information. Supervision by industry professionals is mandatory during these placements.

    Bachelor of Social Work

    Third and fourth year students attend a placement between three (minimum) and five days per week, for a total of 500 hours each placement (approx 68 FTE days).

    Master of Social Work

    First and second year students attend a placement between three (minimum) and five days per week, for a total of 500 hours each placement (approx 68 FTE days).

    Bachelor of Social Science (Ageing and Disability) and Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services)

    Final year students attend two placements between two (minimum) and five days per week, for a total of 280 hours each placement (approx 37 FTE days).
