Entry requirements
Entry to the Honours program will be available to students who have successfully completed a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline. Applicants should have displayed a high level of academic achievement throughout their degree program, normally achieving a credit level average.
Applicants are selected on the basis of academic merit and the availability of a supervisor in the proposed area of research.
Relevant disciplines would typically include science, technology, engineering, or environmental studies. Applicants with qualifications in other disciplines are encouraged to apply and will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Take your undergraduate achievements to the next level with an Honours degree in science.
This degree is ideal if you are preparing yourself for postgraduate research, or if you are seeking an advantage in your career as a professional scientist. You’ll complete advanced study and research in your chosen science discipline including nano- and biomaterials, chemistry, applied physics, materials science, agricultural and food science, environmental science, earth science or ecology.
This one-year degree is for students who have completed a bachelor degree in a relevant field of science, technology, engineering, environmental science or health with a high level of academic achievement. This degree will train you to undertake research and help you to develop higher level scientific and problem-solving skills.

What you'll learn
Over the course of the year you will study courses in research methods, principles and ethics, research communication, as well as research project preparation. You will complete a research project that involves laboratory and/or field work, data collection and analysis, interpretation of your results in the context of current scientific literature, preparation of an Honours thesis and presentation of a final seminar to academics, student peers and relevant industry and government stakeholders.
Study hours
For each course you will need to allocate time for classes including lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars and practicals. You will need additional hours to study in your own time and complete assignments, readings and projects, and contribute to online discussion forums.
Generally, if you are studying full-time you will need to allocate 12 – 26 hours of study at university and 14 – 28 hours of independent study per week. Your research project will likely require additional time spent on the university campus and may involve significant time spent off-campus conducting fieldwork or site visits.

Your studies at UniSA will incorporate both practical, professionally-focused and research-based learning, so assessment types will vary. You can expect them to include:

The Future Industries Institute brings together our world-class strengths in advanced manufacturing, nanomedicine, minerals and resource engineering and environmental science. It encourages researchers to blur the boundaries and build new relationships between industry and academia.
Sustainable Infrastructure and Resource Management concentration has three major research strands: Natural Resources and Environmental Resilience, Innovative Infrastructure and Asset Management, and Smart Communities. It conducts specialist and interdisciplinary research to support improved environmental and socio-economic sustainability.

Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship
Recipients can get a 50% reduction on tuition fees for up to four years of full-time study for selected degrees.
International Merit Scholarship
Recipients can get a 15% reduction on tuition fees for the duration of their chosen degree.

Your program director
I am a geologist and geochemist. I am particularly interested in how mountains form in the centre of tectonic plates, how fluids control the strength of rocks and trigger earthquakes, and how some of the hottest rocks in the world are distributed through southern Australia. I am proud to have been chosen as one of ABC Radio National and UNSW's "Top 5 Under 40" for 2017. As part of this honour, I will have a short residency at the ABC studios in Sydney where I can share my research and my passion for science via the media.

You can access our online International Application System through our How to Apply page. The International Application System is an easy and secure online application and acceptance process. You will have visibility of your application through the secure online portal with the ability to download offer documents, submit your acceptance and make a payment.
Alternatively you can submit an application through one of the University's registered Education Agents.
If you are completing an Australian year 12 qualification in Australia or overseas, or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme in Australia, you must apply through SATAC http://www.satac.edu.au/.

Is there a closing date for applications?
There is no closing date for submitting your application however the admissions process takes between one and three weeks from the date that we receive your application and all required supporting documentation.

What credit can I receive for previous studies?
You may be eligible to receive credit or advanced standing for your chosen UniSA degree based on your previous studies, if they are in a related area at an equivalent or higher level. Receiving credit will reduce the number of courses you undertake within the degree, and may also reduce the overall duration of your degree.
The amount of credit you may be eligible to receive is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Admissions team.
