Aim

The Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Cultures and Australian Society) degree qualifies individuals to apply a broad and coherent body of knowledge at the intersections of Aboriginal Cultures and Australian Society in a range of local, international and global contexts to undertake professional ethical work and as a pathway for further learning.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Cultures and Australian Society) degree will have a broad and coherent body of knowledge of the cultures and identities within the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australian society.

Graduates will have cognitive skills to critically review, analyse and consolidate knowledge in Aboriginal Cultures and Australian Society; technical skills to work and collaborate with the Aboriginal community; creative skills to exercise critical thinking and judgement in identifying opportunities and solutions to problems related to colonisation and globalisation in contemporary societies; and communication skills to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas within the local and global society.

The students will complete 108 units of study comprising 13.5 units of core courses, a 4.5 unit elective, 18 units of minor courses and 72 units of Professional Majors.

Students wanting to progress to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree, Humanities and Social Sciences (HaSS) will need to choose a minor (18 units) in a recognised second learning area other than Humanities and Social Sciences e.g. English; Generalist Mathematics; Arts (Visual Art or Drama); Junior Science; and Languages (French, Italian, or Japanese).
