Aim

The Bachelor of Communication and Media qualifies individuals who apply a broad and coherent body of
knowledge in organisational communication and media management with professional concentration in public
relations within private, public and non-profit organisations both nationally and internationally. The program also
provides pathway for further learning in postgraduate studies.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Bachelor of Communication and Media degree will have a broad and coherent body of
knowledge, disciplinary perspectives and skills in the management of public communication, awareness and
critical understanding of public attitudes and perceptions, with depth in the underlying principles and concepts of
organisation communication and media management and be able to integrate communication with media
technology and media industries.
Graduates will have knowledge and skills in managing the media and public relations in contemporary culture
and society, writing and document development for print, radio, television and electronic media, and application
of critical and analytic thinking to the strategic planning and management of communication and media.
Students will complete 108 units of study. Students entering with associate degrees or with three year
polytechnic (or equivalent) qualifications will receive block credit of 54 units and to qualify for the award must
complete 54 units of the program. Students entering with other appropriate diploma or advanced diploma
qualifications will received block credit of 36 units and, to qualify for the award, must complete 72 units of the
program. The schedule below reflects the credit gained on entry.
