Applicants are required to have
- A completed undergraduate degree from a recognised University in science, engineering or technology; OR
- A completed undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognised University and 3 years work experience as a Forensic Computing, Cyber Security or Electronic Evidence professional; OR
- A completed Graduate Certificate in Science (Forensic Computing) or Graduate Certificate in Science (Cyber Security) with an average of at least Pass Level 1 (55%), or equivalent.
In addition, applicants would normally have passed coursework with the following content:
- Computer programming,
- Data modelling and database design,
- Project management

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

To provide a postgraduate qualification in Forensic Computing (Electronic Evidence) and Cyber Security to meet the demands of Law Enforcement, Australian Government, Defence, Security and banking industry for students from a scientific, technical or law enforcement background.

Content & Structure

The program consists of core courses in Cyber Security, Intrusion Detection, Secure Software Lifecycle and Critical Infrastructure Protection. A total of 36 units of study must be completed.

The program will be offered in both: traditional mode over 13 weeks x 2 hour seminar and 1 hour practical per week in SP2 and SP5; and intensive block teaching mode, 5 days x 8 hours over 1 week in SP2 and SP5 with ongoing web mediated support.

Rules

1. Courses completed in the Graduate Certificate in Science (Forensic Computing) or Graduate Certificate in Science (Cyber Security) will be counted towards the Graduate Diploma in Science (Cyber Security and Forensic Computing) program.

2. Due to the specific requirements of the program and in particular the need for in-class support, international students must enrol in all courses in internal (face-to-face) mode unless specific approval is obtained from the Program Director.

1. Students are advised that a successful criminal history screening clearance is required for all students prior to undertaking the certified information systems security professional or certified software security lifecycle professional examinations

2. Each course in this program includes one intensive week of half-day workshops. If you cannot attend the workshops please contact the Program Director as soon as possible to discuss alternatives.
