Applicants must be 18 years of age or over before February 1st of the year of intended enrolment.

Applicants who have previously studied at higher education level or completed a TAFE/VET award at Certificate IV or higher will not be considered for admission to this program.

Normally no specific course knowledge is assumed or required for entry, with the exception of the following prerequisites:
- applicants to the Applied Science and Engineering strand are required to have achieved SACE Stage 1 passes, or an equivalent TAFE or other approved qualification, in mathematics and science.

Aim

To provide a pathway for applicants who have experienced educational disadvantage or who wish to return to study after a significant absence but lack the formal qualifications for University entry. To provide members of the University's equity target groups access to studies that will enable them to progress to any of the University's undergraduate programs.

Content & Structure

In the first study period all students will study courses making up 18 units. In the second study period students will have a choice of seven 18 unit strands oriented to their intended undergraduate program.

The seven strands available are:
Applied Science and Engineering
Business
Education, Arts and Social Sciences
Foundation Studies - UniStart
Health Sciences
Information Technology
Regional - Mount Gambier
Regional - Whyalla

Some undergraduate programs have prerequisites which the appropriate strand is designed to satisfy. Students taking any strand may apply to any undergraduate program for which there are no prerequisites.

Rules

1. The program may be taken by full-time or part-time study or as a combination of the two modes.

2. In the case of the Regional - Mount Gambier strand the program may be taken by internal study only.

3. All courses must be taken except where designated as alternatives.

4. Applicants should have achieved SACE Stage 1 passes, or equivalent TAFE or other approved qualification, in mathematics and science.

Notes

1. Students who have English as a second language will be provided with advice as to whether this course is most appropriate, following their enrolment. The course LANG 46 English Language Studies for Second Language Learners of English will be available to these students.

2. Students must enrol in MATH 47 Foundation Mathematics 2: Calculus if they intend to proceed to degree programs in engineering, mathematics or a science.

3. CHEM 2 Introductory Chemistry and PHYS 5 Introductory Physics may also be available in the first half of the year.

4. MATH 46 Foundation Mathematics 1: Algebra and Trigonometry is also available in SP5.
