Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have:
- A completed four year Bachelors degree (or honours degree) from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent; OR
- A completed Graduate Diploma in Project Management from the University of South Australia
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

Aim

This program provides motivated graduates from diverse disciplinary backgrounds an advanced understanding of project management best practice as adopted by many government and industry sectors worldwide. It also provides students with the opportunity to apply and develop knowledge via appropriate research studies.

The program requires the completion of eight 4.5 unit courses making a total of 36 units plus Minor Research Thesis 1 & 2 each worth 9 units, making a total of 54 units. Courses are listed in the program schedule below.

Rules & notes

Notes

1. The Principles of Project Management A course (BUSS 5142) is compulsory and should be undertaken at the first opportunity. The Strategic Asset Management (BUSS 5256) course is also compulsory within this program.

2. The program is available on either a full-time or part-time basis.

3. Project Dissertation 1 (BUSS 5295) and Project Dissertation 2 (BUSS 5306) would require an overall total of about 700 hours of student time to complete the project.

4. Courses in the Assets and Facilities stream may be substituted by other Project Management courses subject to the guidance of the Program Director.

5. Students who have completed the Graduate Diploma in Project Management (Assets and Facilities) program, or equivalent program will receive credit, subject to approval of the Program Director.

6. The Project Management Competency & Ethics (BUSS 5296) and Research Techniques in Project Management (BUSS 5297) courses are for those students intending to progress to the Doctor of Project Management on completion of the Masters degree. Students must consult the Program Director prior to enrolling in these options.

7. The Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice (Project Management) provides a pathway for subsequent entry to this program and both awards can be completed in two years of full time study or part time equivalent.
