Aim

This degree covers in a comprehensive way the academic requirements for admission to practice as specified by the Law Admissions Consultative Committee (LACC) in the Uniform Admission Rules.  The degree also offers an excellent foundation for many legally related careers including in, public policy and advice, law reform, alternative dispute resolution, business and administration, education and academia, legal research, community sector advocacy, international policy and industrial relations.

Content & Structure

The total number of units required is 144. The Law degree comprises 85.5 units of core courses, 9 units of capstone courses and 31.5 units of elective courses. In the fourth year of the degree students have to option to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (18 units) or one semester of Honours Research studies as part of their program structure.

From 4 August 2025, the University of South Australia will no longer be accepting applications for new students. Study at Adelaide University.

Professional accreditation and recognition

This program covers in a comprehensive way the academic requirements for admission to practice as specified by the national Law Admissions Consultative Committee and applied in South Australia by the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council. In addition to the academic requirements of the program, students seeking admission to practice are required to complete an approved practical legal training (PLT) program. Students seeking admission to practice in other Australian jurisdictions should apply to the appropriate admitting authority.
