The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice option is not available to international students studying in Australia on a student visa.

Aim

This degree covers in a comprehensive way the academic requirements for admission to practice as specified by the Law Admissions Consultative Committee (LACC) in the Uniform Admission Rules. The degree also offers an excellent foundation for many legally related careers including in, public policy and advice, law reform, alternative dispute resolution, business and administration, education and academia, legal research, community sector advocacy, international policy and industrial relations.

Content & Structure

The total number of units required is 126. The Law degree comprises 85.5 units of core courses, 9 units of capstone courses and 13.5 units of elective courses. In the fourth year of the degree students have to option to undertake the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (18 units) or one semester of Honours Research studies as part of their program structure.

From 4 August 2025, the University of South Australia will no longer be accepting applications for new students. Study at Adelaide University.

Rules & notes

Rules

1. All students in UniSA Justice and Society who, as part of a course, undertake activities where interaction with clients/the public/an external organisation are required, such as industry placements or clinical placement, must demonstrate that they have a current National Police Clearance, which is valid for the duration of the course. External placement providers may also require a current DHS - Working with Children Check (WWCC), which is valid for the duration of the course. The National Police Check will list disclosable court outcomes that may prevent clinical placement/industry placement involvement, requiring withdrawal from the course.

2. Students must complete these courses or the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. Students wishing to complete alternative advanced level studies should seek advice from the Program Director.

3. Students may complete the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice with the College of Law or an alternative approved provider and apply for 18 units of credit towards their Bachelor or Laws (Honours) program.

4. In addition to completion of the core courses, students must complete 9 units of capstone courses. Refer to the Capstone Law Electives list below.

5. The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice option is not available to international students studying in Australia on a student visa.

1. This course contributes towards the honours grade for the program.

2. All students entering through the graduate entry pathway will receive 18 units of credit. This credit will be for 4 x 4.5-unit elective courses.
