Entry requirements
An applicant for a place in a Master of Research must satisfy the entry requirements set by the Research Degrees Committee which demonstrate competence to undertake a higher degree by research.
You may be eligible to be considered for admission if you have:
- an Honours degree or a Bachelor degree with honours; or
- a relevant Bachelor degree (or equivalent) of at least three years with a minimum credit average; or
- an appropriate Masters degree; or
- no tertiary qualifications, but can demonstrate research capabilities as proven through evidence of professional work experience in the field of proposed study and by relevant quality publications.
English language entry requirements
In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Aim
This research degree provides practice based, supervised research training through embedded coursework and the completion of a substantial research program applicable to real world, national or international population health issues, in order to develop public health workforce capacity and as a pathway to further learning.
Content & Structure
This research degree includes four core courses and a program of original research leading to the submission of an externally examined thesis. The program of original research affords an opportunity for a workplace/institution or collaborator to be involved in a substantial research project, which could include the development and pilot testing of a new health promotion/service initiative, evaluation of a currently existing health service, or exploration of a health-related situation. Topics could be volunteered by workplaces, ie the project could be "sponsored" by a workplace. This opportunity can include placement within departments or sites.
